Texas Is Getting Its Second-Largest State Park
Outdoor enthusiasts have something exciting to look forward to. Texas is adding a massive new destination to its state park system, and it will soon become the second-largest state park in the state.
Silver Lake Ranch, a 54,000-acre property located between Rocksprings and Uvalde in the Texas Hill Country, has been acquired by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and will become Silver Lake State Park. The property was made possible through a major gift from the Moody Foundation, along with funding from the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund.

As North Texas prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Arlington has unveiled a new landmark celebrating the region's connection to the world's most popular sport.
The "Texan Golden Boot," an 18-foot-long sculpture located in Arlington's Entertainment District near AT&T Stadium, was created to commemorate North Texas serving as a host region for the tournament. AT&T Stadium will host nine World Cup matches—more than any other host venue in the country.
Designed by internationally recognized sculptor Steve Ekpenisi, the artwork combines two iconic symbols: soccer's prestigious Golden Boot award and a Texas-style spur. Constructed from locally sourced reclaimed metal, the sculpture stands 11 feet tall and weighs more than 2,200 pounds.
Beyond serving as a public art installation, the project is part of a larger initiative supporting youth sports access, public art programs, health initiatives, and community development throughout North Texas.
