North Texas may be in for a rough weekend. According to national forecasters, a major winter storm is expected to develop late this week and could bring dangerous freezing rain, sleet, and icy road conditions across Dallas–Fort Worth and much of the South.
Meteorologists are warning that this storm has the potential to be a high-impact ice event, which is often more disruptive than snow. Even small amounts of ice can weigh down trees and power lines, increasing the risk of power outages and making roads extremely hazardous. Forecasters also note that temperatures may stay low enough for ice to linger for several days, especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads.
While the exact timing and totals for DFW are still uncertain, one thing is clear: it’s going to be extremely cold, and now is the time to prepare.
If you live in Fort Worth or anywhere across DFW, here are a few practical steps to take before the storm arrives:
Winter weather isn’t just inconvenient — it can create real home-related issues like burst pipes, roof leaks, and frozen HVAC equipment. A little preparation can go a long way in protecting your home and avoiding emergency repairs.
We’ll keep an eye on updated forecasts as the weekend gets closer, but for now, the best advice is simple: be weather aware and take precautions early.

A new coffee (and wine) spot is officially coming to South Main Village. Chill Coffee & Wine Bar is moving into the former Coupe champagne bar space at 314 S. Main St., Suite 110, and opens to the public Friday, January 23 at 7 AM—just in time for the cold front.
Chill is owned by four UTA grads and hospitality pros, and this marks their second location after launching in Arlington in 2022. They’ll serve Vietnamese single-origin coffee roasted locally, with specialty favorites like Crème Brûlée Coffee, Ube Latte, matcha, chai, plus creative seasonal drinks.
In the evening, the space shifts into a wine-bar vibe with rotating wines by the glass or bottle. They’ll also offer pastries from Main Street Bakery, toasts, and build-your-own charcuterie boards.
To celebrate opening day, Chill is hosting a grand opening Friday, January 23 with $3 coffee drinks all day. Regular hours will be 7 AM–9 PM daily.
