A new national study is shedding light on what it takes to be considered middle class in today’s economy—and the numbers in Fort Worth are continuing to rise.
According to the 2026 “What It Takes to Be Middle Class in America” report by SmartAsset, households in Fort Worth now need to earn between $55,002 and $165,006 per year to fall within the middle class range.
That’s an increase from last year, with the minimum income required rising by about $3,600. The upper threshold also increased by more than $10,000, reflecting broader changes in income growth and cost of living.
For context, the median household income in Fort Worth was $82,503 in 2024, placing many residents comfortably within the middle of that range.
The study uses a definition commonly referenced by economists: households earning between two-thirds and double the median income are considered middle class.
While Fort Worth’s middle class income range has increased, several neighboring North Texas cities have significantly higher thresholds.
Frisco, in particular, ranks among the top cities in the country for middle-class income levels, driven by rapid growth, high-paying jobs, and a strong local economy.
The rising income range highlights the broader economic growth happening across North Texas. As job opportunities expand and new residents move to the region, household incomes—and home values—continue to climb.
For many families, being middle class often includes goals like homeownership, raising children, building savings, and enjoying occasional travel or leisure spending.
While affordability remains an important conversation across the country, Fort Worth continues to offer a relatively balanced cost of living compared to many major U.S. cities.
The numbers confirm what many residents already feel—North Texas continues to grow economically, and Fort Worth remains one of the region’s most accessible cities for families and professionals looking to build long-term stability.
As incomes and opportunities rise, the city continues to attract new residents who want the combination of career growth, community, and quality of life that Fort Worth offers.
In a world full of complicated fitness routines and expensive gym memberships, one of the biggest wellness trends of 2026 is surprisingly simple: walking.
Across the country — and especially here in Dallas–Fort Worth — more people are rediscovering the health benefits of putting one foot in front of the other. Walking has gained popularity because it’s accessible, low-impact, and incredibly effective for improving both physical and mental health.
Several new structured walking methods are helping drive the trend. One of the most talked-about is the Japanese Walking Method, a form of interval training where participants alternate between three minutes of brisk walking and three minutes at a slower pace. Repeating the cycle for about 30 minutes has been shown to improve blood pressure, leg strength, and cardiovascular health.
Another popular trend is the 6-6-6 walking routine, which involves a 60-minute brisk walk — typically at 6 a.m. or 6 p.m. — with a six-minute warm-up and cool-down. The simplicity and consistency make it easy for people to stick with long term.
Fitness enthusiasts are also embracing power walking and the 12-3-30 treadmill workout, which combines incline walking and steady pacing to build endurance while remaining gentle on the joints.
One reason walking has become so popular is that it offers more than just physical benefits. Studies show regular walking can reduce stress, improve focus, and support overall mental well-being.
Fortunately, North Texas offers plenty of beautiful places to walk. Locally, the Fort Worth Japanese Garden provides a peaceful setting with winding paths and scenic bridges. Other popular spots include Trinity Trails, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, White Rock Lake, and River Legacy Parks, all offering miles of scenic paths for walkers of every fitness level.
Whether it’s a quiet morning walk through a park or a structured interval routine, more people are realizing that one of the best ways to improve their health doesn’t require complicated equipment — just a comfortable pair of shoes and a great trail.
